Two things about Durham differ from every other page on this site, and both are easy to get wrong. First, the UCAS code is M101, not M100 Oxford, UCL, LSE and King's all use M100, so the habit of copying it across your five choices puts you nowhere at Durham. Second, Durham says that both parts of the LNAT, the multiple-choice score and the essay, are always considered by its admissions selectors, and that no minimum multiple-choice score is required. That is close to the opposite of LSE, which reads only Section A. The degree is a research-led LLB covering the law of England and Wales, with optional modules across public, private and international law. Durham Law School has a moot court, dedicated workrooms and a pro bono room, and points to ten law-related student societies. There are roughly 300 students in each LLB year. You cannot combine Law with another subject at Durham, and there is no Senior Status LLB the only routes are the three-year LLB and the four-year LLB with a Year Abroad, both under M101, with the year abroad opted into after your first year rather than at application. Durham is collegiate, which brings back a question the London pages do not have but the college system works differently from Oxford's. At Oxford, colleges interview and select. At Durham, the Law School decides your academic fate and the college is where you live and belong; accommodation is allocated through it. Durham also accepts some Indian State Boards case by case, which most of the London schools do not. Both facts reward reading Durham's own pages rather than assuming Oxbridge rules transfer.
Teaching style
Durham describes teaching that is diverse and forward-thinking in both content and method, with much of it in small groups to increase discussion and collaboration. Durham's contact hours and the lecture/seminar/tutorial split were not verified this session read them from Durham's own course page rather than assuming they resemble Oxford's tutorials or UCL's lecture load.
Durham is a small cathedral city in the north-east of England, and that is the whole proposition. It is not London: there is no legal district next door and no Tube. What there is instead is a compact, walkable city where the university is the dominant institution and your college is your neighbourhood. If you have only been comparing London law schools, this is a different kind of three years.

Document-based, with the LNAT as an essential requirement Durham will not consider you without. Apply through UCAS under M101 not M100 by 13 January 2027, and sit the LNAT in the same cycle. Durham says it does not make offers on grades alone: it weighs background, context and your personal statement alongside your academic record, and uses the LNAT to distinguish between otherwise similar candidates. Durham reportedly does not interview for the LLB.
Durham states that performance in the LNAT is one of a number of grounds on which selectors determine the relative merit and potential of applicants, and that it may be used to distinguish between otherwise similar candidates alongside the rest of the UCAS application. Crucially, Durham says both parts the multiple-choice score and the essay are always considered, and that no minimum multiple-choice score is required. the 'both parts always considered' wording was found on a Durham course-information page that also references 2020 entry; Durham's current LNAT page says more softly that both are made available to universities. Confirm which wording is current before quoting it.
Durham states its LLB forms the first stage of the professional training needed to qualify as a solicitor or barrister. do not repeat the graduate-employment percentages and employer lists that circulate for Durham the ones found this session are institution-wide, drawn from aggregators, and say nothing about Law specifically, let alone about international graduates.
